This week we would like to highlight Double Agent member #3444 Briar-Rose. Briar-Rose started running at the young age of eight. Her love of running began as a simple cross-training exercise for figure skating and over time as she began running longer distances she commented, "I might as well get some bling for it." She says that what inspired her to keep running was seeing the different number of people at marathons. Whether old or young, large or small, watching individuals overcome their obstacles inspired her.
Briar-Rose has completed three 5Ks, two 15Ks, 14 half marathons, and seven full marathons. She has even been the overall female winner in one of her 5K races! Being so young in a crowd of older men and women she has never lost courage or determination. She says that her favorite part about running races is, "[Proving] to everyone that with the right training and support children are capable of running these races and we should not be stopped from achieving our goals and dreams because of other peoples outdated beliefs." Briar says that her goal is to follow her mother's footsteps and run the Boston Marathon in 2024, which will be held one day after her 18th birthday! As of right now she is only eight minutes off of her qualifying time for the Boston Marathon. Great job Briar-Rose, your achievements are amazing and we know you'll continue to have amazing runs in the future. We can't wait to see you accomplish all of your goals!
Incredible. All the best for 2024. Boston is by far my favorite marathon. The crowds are incredible. I use a lot of words writing about the Boston Marathon in my book. Especially the “scream tunnel”.
